Carter Tanton is an artist residing in Los Angeles whose work spans film, music and photography. He studied photography under Stephen Shore at Bard College, learning to reveal nascent forms implicit in the built environment. After recieving his degree, he shifted this visual understanding to music, where for 15 years he was a sought after multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter, performing internationally and collaborating on Grammy Award-winning records. Transitioning from music back to visual work in 2018, he returned to photography as a fashion retoucher and photographer. He has shot and refined editorials for labels like Telfar, Sies Marjan and Puppets & Puppets and contributed to magazines such as 032c, Nylon, and Arena HOMME+. As a photographer, he strives for a clear and unaffected translation of light and form into enduring images. Since 2022, he has also worked in film and TV as a motion and interactive designer building custom screens and user interfaces to create a more authentic portrayal of the world around us. His credits include feature films, standup specials, and scripted television series. Blending and weaving between respective practices, Tanton infuses each one with an interwoven focus and vision.
